This is one of the most beautiful sites I ever had the honor of working with: a hilltop plateau overlooking several valleys, on either side.  After demolition of an existing house in the middle of the plateau, we decided to leave the center of this beautiful landform completely open, creating instead a crescent-shaped form with which the new house, its terraces and arbors complete and embrace the bowl of the Southern Valley. In placement, orientation and design it takes full advantage of natural breezes, sun orientation and surrounding existing vegetation for natural ventilation and passive solar benefits. Roof slopes and East/West orientation will allow for easy installation of future solar panels. As is typical for our projects, insulation is either Cellulose or soy-based polyurethane. Extensive water features provide the possibility of natural cooling for all major rooms.
